Cheap flights can always look tempting and we know the feeling when you see the savings you'd be getting. However, we have to say that sometimes, the lowest price isn't always the best deal you can get. Sometimes you need to do a little more checking to make sure everything is is airtight.
Here are some key things we recommend you always check before buying your flight ticket.
Refund Options

Not that we wish for this, but plans definitely change and emergencies can always happen. If your ticket isn't refundable, you lose all your money when you can't fly. Non-refundable tickets cost less initially for a fact. However, refundable ones do protect you if something goes wrong.
Ensure you read the cancellation terms carefully and ask your agent if confused about anything. Sometimes paying some more does go a long way in the end.
Luggage Rules

One thing that's always important to know is how much luggage you can bring. Baggage rules differ by airline, ticket type and your destination. Ensure you check your allowance before booking your ticket.
If you find out at the airport you're over the limit, it probably means paying extra that could have been avoided. Know what your ticket includes & pack accordingly.
Layover Countries & Times

Connecting flights usually cost less but take much longer to reach your destination. You need to be on the lookout for two potential things -
Layovers that are too short (you could miss your connection)
Layovers that are too long (you're stuck at the airport for hours)
Additionally, some stopover countries require transit visas, even if you don't leave the airport. Ensure you check visa requirements of any layover countries you would be in. You won't want to be denied boarding when you're almost at your destination.
Leg Space

Cramped seats can make long flights miserable, especially if you're quite a tall person. Legroom can vary widely between airlines and seat types as well. Tight spaces cause stiff muscles and poor circulation, especially on flights over four hours. Plus, it always helps to check the seat specifications for your plane.
A few extra pounds / dollars for more legroom can always make a huge difference in your comfort.
Rewards Programs

This is one of the better things to look out for. Frequent flyer miles accrued add up to real benefits like free flights, upgrades and travel perks. However, not all tickets or airlines earn miles. Some very cheap fares often don't count towards rewards. Plus, some airlines like easyjet don't have a frequent flyers program.
If you fly regularly, choose airlines in the same network and pick tickets that earn points. The rewards pay off over time.
Conclusion
So it's fair to say, don't just look at the price. Consider refunds, baggage, comfort, connections and rewards. Checking these before you buy that ticket saves you money and headaches later.
